Fraction Calculator

Find the least common denominator (LCD) of both fractions, convert each fraction to that denominator, then add the numerators and keep the denominator. Example: 1/2 + 1/3 → LCD=6 → 3/6 + 2/6 = 5/6.

Same as addition: find the LCD, convert both fractions, then subtract the numerators. Example: 3/4 − 1/3 → LCD=12 → 9/12 − 4/12 = 5/12.

Multiply the numerators together and the denominators together, then simplify. Example: 2/3 × 3/4 = 6/12 = 1/2. You can also cross-simplify before multiplying to keep numbers smaller.

Multiply the first fraction by the reciprocal (flip) of the second fraction. Example: 2/3 ÷ 4/5 = 2/3 × 5/4 = 10/12 = 5/6.

A fraction is simplified when the numerator and denominator share no common factors other than 1. Divide both by their GCF. Example: 12/18 — GCF is 6, so 12/18 = 2/3.
